Did you know…?
Earlwood was first known as ‘Parkestown’ and then as ‘Forest Hill’ before being named Earlwood. After World War I, a subdivision was created west of Wardell Road for retired soldiers and their families. Many of the streets were named after these famous men and the battles they fought in, such as Hamilton, Vimy, Fricourt, Polygon and Guedecourt. The Scotties Tissue Factory was originally operated on the corner of Louisa and River Streets and run by the Scott family who lived there.
